I am incredibly excited to announce that Grace Kim of Mountain Concerts has produced a musical version of Leonard the Lyrebird to be premiered at Scenic World in the Blue Mountains. Composer Ian Munro will narrate while Grace Kim will play the piano, Teije Hylkema, cello, and Philip Green, clarinet. The illustrations will also be a part of the production. The first performance on the 23rd of Feb will include a pre concert Q&A with Ian Munro and author Jodie McLeod. Two following performances in the Rainforest Room on the 24th will be down in the Jamison Valley via the world’s steepest railway and back up via the Scenic Cableway. Unlimited access to Scenic World on the day is included in the ticket price. Currently there are only these 3 performances scheduled so to avoid disappointment book asap through: ww.scenicworld.com.au/event/world-premiere-leonard-the-lyrebird-a-musical-story/ for the Saturday performance or Eventbrite for all performances: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/leonard-the-lyrebird-a-musical-story-tickets-54187540392?aff=ebapi
Thanks to everyone who came on Sunday to support us. There was standing room only in the end and Jodie and I couldn't be happier with the response. If you'd like to buy a copy and can't get it at your local bookshop yet (ask them and they might stock it for you), follow this link to buy directly through Jodie: http://www.jodiemcleod.com/books.html.
As some of you may know, my first children's book (written by Jodie McLeod) is launching on the 1st of Sept at the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre (Katoomba). Come along if you're in the area (10:30-11:30). There will be a couple of readings, some kids craft, the original artwork on display and of course the book itself and Art Prints for sale.
I managed to finish Leonard the Lyrebird a few weeks ago and have been busy relocating my studio (which has cleared out a few cobwebs) and working on some new bits and pieces. I've really been enjoying painting in gouache after working in gouache for 'Leonard', so I thought I'd keep the ball rolling and do some other illustrations in the same medium. Here are two new ones. The first is a whimsical landscape and the second is an illustrated map for the Blue Mountains Makers (of which I am a part). I finished it today so thought I'd share!
As you may have noticed, my website has changed a bit. This is for a couple of reasons.
I have decided after two and a half years of juggling production, inventory and sales of my puzzle and kids product range, that something had to give. So, to put the emphasis back on design and illustration, I am winding back my product range. I will continue to sell my prints and have launched a Homewares + range through UK company Contrado, but for now, I won't be continuing with my puzzle and game product range.
.... and I am available for Textile Design and Illustration commissions. Get in touch if you like to discuss a project.
